Maureen Siu joined the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in 1991 as a member of the Administrative Officer Grade.  She has served in different capacities in different offices, including Civil Service Bureau, as the head of the Civil Service Training & Development Institute; the Commerce, Industry & Trade Bureau; the Financial Secretary’s Office; the Planning, Environment and Lands Bureau; and the Home Affairs Department.  Prior to that, she was an entrepreneur in the restaurant business in Massachusetts, and a director of a social service center in New York City.  She received her Master of Public and Private Management from the Yale University and her B.A. cum laude in sociology from the University of Massachusetts.

Michael Bloomfield

Michael Bloomfield, educator, ecologist is Founder and Executive Director of Harmony Foundation of Canada (1985). He has post-secondary degrees/diplomas in nutrition, Biology and veterinary science and has been involved in Canada and internationally for over 30 years in a wide variety of activities involving ethics, ecology and human development. Under his leadership the Foundation has been widely recognized for its pioneering work in education for the environment and in building bridges between business, government and community interests. Michael Bloomfield has received many awards for his leadership in community service and environmental education, including the prestigious United Nations Environmental Programme’s Global 500 Award, The Commonwealth Fellowship and The Ethics in Action Award for Lifetime Achievement.  He is a Member of the Governing Council Global 500 Forum, United Nations Environmental Programme.

Over the past 23 years, under his leadership, the Foundation has created numerous programs and 21 major publications to help individuals, schools, workplaces and communities take positive action for the environment. This list includes Green Cities: a Guide for Sustainable Community Development which was an official document of United Nations World Environment 2005 and its Urban Environmental Accords. Assisting communities around the world to develop sustainable community plans has led to his current work, a collaboration with the Environmental Management College of China (EMCC), and the National Training Center for Mayors of China (NTCMC) to create The Leadership Training Program for Sustainable Community Development in China.

Dr. Quentin Chiotti

Quentin Chiotti was appointed the Climate Change Programme Director at Pollution Probe in April 2007. He has a Ph. D. in Geography from the University of Western Ontario, and has published over 45 articles in scholarly journals and books. He is the co-lead author for the Ontario chapter to the report From Impacts to Adaptation: Canada in a Changing Climate 2007 led by Natural Resources Canada, and is a contributing author to Human Health in a Changing Climate: A Canadian Assessment of Vulnerabilities and Adaptive Capacity led by Health Canada. Dr. Chiotti has taught at various Universities across Canada, is currently an associate member of the Graduate Faculty at the Centre for Environment, University of Toronto, and was the recipient of the 2007 Canadian Association of Geographers Award for Service to Government or Business. Quentin has been a member of over twenty environment-related advisory boards and committees that currently includes the Clean Air Foundation, the Management Committee of the Air Quality Health Index, the Ontario Expert Panel on Climate Adaptation, and the Clean Air Regulatory Framework Multistakeholder Group. In January 2009 he participated in the conference “The Air We Breathe: A Public Health Dialogue” held in Hong Kong.

Richard Gould

Before joining the Ontario government in 2002, Richard held a number of senior executive positions in the private sector including Vice President, International Sales and Marketing of Alcatel Canada Wire and a board member of several of Alcatel Canada Wire’s overseas Joint Venture companies. Richard’s entire career has been in the international business field specifically exporting and overseas company management.

Currently Richard is Manager, International Markets for the Ontario Ministry of International Trade and Investment and manages programs to assist Ontario exporters in a variety of diverse markets including China.

Dr. Javier Gracia-Garza

Dr. Gracia-Garza is currently the Director General, Science and Technology (S&T) Strategies at Environment Canada where he is responsible for providing advice and recommendations to the Minister of the Environment, Deputy Ministers and Assistant Deputy Ministers of Environment Canada on S&T strategic issues of the department and federal community. He also ensures strong links between the science and policy communities within and outside the department; provides support to the S&T Branch by communicating and promoting the results of its S&T efforts; provides expert advice on current and emerging environmental technological innovations and, oversees the management of environmental arm-length organizations.

Previously, Dr. Gracia-Garza was the Senior Advisor on domestic S&T policy issues to the National Science Advisor to the Government of Canada (Privy Council Office/Industry Canada); Policy Director on the Ontario Federal Council (OFC) Secretariat and later Regional Director, Strategic Policy and Intergovernmental Affairs, Ontario and Nunavut Region with Health Canada.  He started his career in the Federal government as a scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC).

Hope Jaglowitz

Hope Jaglowitz is Director of International Trade for the Ministry of International Trade and Investment having joined the Ontario government in 2005.  The mandate of the Trade Branch is to assist Ontario suppliers of goods and services to gain access to and expand their business in international markets.  In this role Hope leads a team of trade specialists to offer value-added programming and services to Ontario companies that are both new to exporting and experienced exporters.
Hope has over 20 years of progressive strategic marketing and general management experience with major multinational corporations.  Most recently Hope was Vice President of Marketing for a division of Colgate-Palmolive in the U.S.  Prior to that she held various positions with multinationals both in Canada and Central Europe.
She holds a B.A. from Queen’s University and a M.B.A. from the University of Toronto.

Lee Kane

Prior to joining DFAIT, Mr. Lee Kane worked in the private sector in Paris, Toronto, Montreal and Geneva and also lived and owned a small business in Shanghai. Mr. Kane is currently the Trade Commissioner responsible for the natural resources, energy, environment, construction and forestry sectors for China and Mongolia at GPC. He was also part of the delegation that accompanied MINT on his recent trip to China and sits on the board of the Ottawa chapter of the Hong Kong Canada Business Association.

Lee Kane received his International Baccalaureate from Upper Canada College in Toronto, a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University in Montreal, and a Masters Degree in International relations from GSD in Geneva.

Sarah Kutulakos

Sarah Kutulakos joined the Council in April 2007 after 11 years in marketing, product development, and management with a major multinational corporation, where she had multiple assignments involving China. Sarah has managed worldwide product businesses that marketed to China and used China-based sources of supply. She was involved in several projects requiring cooperation with the Chinese government. Sarah has led both established and start-up businesses within the context of a global corporation and has broad emerging market business experience. She has been involved in the Greater China region since the late 1980’s when she lived and worked in Taiwan. There she was the first non-Chinese employee of a local high-tech startup firm, where she gained a deep understanding of Chinese business practices.

A fluent Mandarin speaker, Sarah’s interest in China began at the University of Wisconsin, where she studied Chinese, marketing, and international business. She holds an MBA in finance and operations from the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester, where she also speaks frequently on product management and marketing in China.

Dr. Richard Lü

Dr. Richard Lü is the Vice President, Business Development, at ARISE Technologies Corporation. He is responsible for Asian business development as well as solar PV Systems deployment in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Richard has more than 20 years of experience in developing and implementing business strategies to meet many corporations’ needs in Canada, USA, Europe and Asia. He has extensive experience in the energy market and was previously the Chief Conservation Officer and Vice President of Toronto Hydro Corporation. He was mandated to develop and execute a sweeping portfolio of Conservation and Demand Management (CDM) Programs to assist its customers and the government in creating an energy conservation culture in Ontario. Under his leadership the Toronto Hydro CDM team delivers conservation, electricity demand response and clean distributed energy programs in the City of Toronto. He was also involved with several significant Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Projects in Ontario. Richard was previously with Enbridge Consumers Gas, Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd., and Dillon Consulting.

Dr. Richard Lü holds a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Health Science degrees from the University of Toronto; a Master of Science and a Doctorate of Medicine degrees from Tongji Medical University. He is also a graduate of the Darden Executive Education Program of the University of Virginia.

He was the founding Chair of Acetech; an association of Technology CEO’s, is a member of YPO (Young Presidents Org) and is a Certified Corporate Director (ICD.D) from Rotman School of business to complement a BCOMM from the U of Windsor.

John Nicholson

John has over 18 years experience in environmental consulting, environmental law and government.  John is the business columnist in HazMat Management Magazine and Solid Waste and Recycling Magazine.  He is also the editor of Canadian Water Treatment magazine, the leading water quality trade publication in Canada.

He has worked in the environmental sector since 1989 starting as an engineer at a large Canadian consulting firm.  He subsequently worked at as an in-house engineer at one of Canada’s leading law firms and at the Ontario Ministry of the Environment.

John presently works at Environmental Business Consultants (“EBC”), a firm he co-founded.  EBC specializes in helping environmental companies grow and prosper through technical assistance, financing, and business development.

John is has an B.Sc.(Eng.) and an M.Sc. in environmental engineering from the University of Guelph.

Nicholas Parker

Nicholas Parker co-founded the Cleantech Group, introducing the cleantech concept to the investment and business community in 2002. Previously Nicholas accumulated over 15 years experience starting and investing venture funds worldwide through limited partnerships, family offices, corporate funds and endowments. During this time, he pioneered the first "sustainability" driven private equity funds and participated in one of the first solar IPOs. In the 1990s, he also founded, built and sold an environmental finance firm. He has served as an advisor to multilateral agencies and major corporations.
Nicholas earned a BA Hons. in Technology Studies (Carleton University, Ottawa) and an MBA (City University, London), and has authored or edited more than ten publications related to cleantech, finance and international business, starting with Investing in Emerging Economies in 1993. He serves as Chairman of E+Co, a public purpose investment company for clean energy enterprises in developing countries, and is on several boards, including: Government of Singapore Cleantech Advisory Board, Canadian Centre of Excellence for Commercialization of Research and the X PRIZE Energy & Environment Council. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA). Nicholas has lived and worked in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America and currently resides with his two children in Toronto.

Katie Sullivan

Katie is a Senior Associate with ICF International’s Energy & Resource Markets team. Her work focuses largely on environmental market opportunities and emerging climate change policies, such as the design of emissions trading schemes and other policy mechanisms to finance, deploy and stimulate uptake in clean technologies and practices. She has worked for a range of public, private and non-profit sector clients across Canada and abroad, including Natural Resources Canada, Environment Canada, US Environment Protection Agency, NAFTA’s Commission for Environmental Cooperation, Canada’s Council of Energy Ministers, the UN Environment Program, National Roundtable on Economy & Environment, and the World Wildlife Fund. For the private sector, Katie regularly provides management advisory services on corporate sustainability strategies and program development. Since 2007, Katie has been the official Secretariat for Canada’s Industry-Provincial Offset Group (IPOG), a 100+ member stakeholder group, formed to provide Canada’s Federal Government with constructive policy recommendations on key design elements and market considerations to drive the development of North America’s carbon market. Katie’s also the lead author of a recent report on environmental financial products and services commissioned by the North American Task Force of the UNEP Financial Initiative. To date, this is the most comprehensive report ever developed on environmental banking products and services.

Dr. You-Zhi Tang

Dr. Tang is one of Canada’s environmental leaders, an internationally recognized environmental professional with expertise in a variety of fields. He is an adjunct professor and guest research fellow at four universities and served as a United Nations Development Program senior technical advisor. Invited by the Government of China, You-Zhi has visited China many times in the past fifteen years to provide guidance on a number of environmental science, technology, management and policy issues to senior government officials and industrial executives. He is a Past President of the Air & Waste Management Association-Ontario Section, and the Founding Chairman for the Canada-China Environmental Cooperation Council. You-Zhi also serves as a director for several community services non-profit organizations.

You-Zhi started his career as a scientist, investigator and advisor on environmental issues for Environment Canada and Health Canada in late 1980’s.  He then worked for a number of private and public companies, and joined Jacques Whitford in 2001 as Director, Air Quality and later became a Principal. He was Vice President - Air Quality at CH2M HILL Canada from 2005 to 2007, and joined Venture Coaches as a Partner in April 2007. You-Zhi is currently a member of the board of directors or advisory board of 10 clean technology companies in Canada and China, and also the CSO for DaoPower Canada, a developer of renewable energy projects. His involvement in energy efficiency and renewable energy has been increasing dramatically in the recent years.

Trevor Taylor

Mr.  Trevor Taylor, Director Business Development at PCI Geomatics, has been involved in the Canadian and international earth observation community for over 20 years, and has a wide range of experience in many environmentally themed projects such as wetland change detection, water quality monitoring, soil erosion, crop yield and trend analysis, global and urban monitoring, base mapping, deforestation and public security applications.  Mr. Taylor has worked actively in over 40 countries throughout the world.
In the case of China, Mr. Taylor has been continuously involved in the Chinese marketplace since 1992, with a current focus on the environmental sector for water applications, carbon monitoring, urban change, wetland monitoring, open standards and the application of cutting edge technology. Mr. Taylor will return to China in September, to participate in the Chinese led International Symposium on Digital Earth.
Mr. Taylor is the PCI Geomatics representative to the Open Geospatial Consortium’s Strategic Membership Advisory council and holds a degree in Geography from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada.

Mr. Tony Verrelli

Mr. Tony Verrelli has been the President and a Director of Cleanfield Energy Corp., an alternative energy company specializing in the development of wind energy systems, since 2002.  In 2006, Cleanfield became a publicly traded company and Mr. Verrelli was appointed as the President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Cleanfield Alternative Energy Inc.  In 1995, Mr. Verrelli founded VIP Communication & Management Group, a marketing and communications company, which focused on branding and relationship development.

Mr. Verrelli has senior management experience with a solid record of accomplishment of leadership in diverse organizations in the private, public and non-profit sectors.  During the past 18 years, Mr. Verrelli has held various management, marketing and sales positions and has managed over 250 marketing projects.  Mr. Verrelli has been involved in the renewable energy industry for the past five years and the environmental industry since 1995.  Mr. Verrelli is currently a member of the Canadian Wind Energy Association Small Wind Committee.

Shirley Wong

Shirley Wong is the Principal Consultant for Investment Promotion at the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office, responsible for facilitating Canadian companies expansion into Hong Kong or through Hong Kong into Asia.  Her unit, as part of Invest HK, provides information and assistance to companies in conducting opportunity scan, market study, cost & benefit analysis and setting up office in Hong Kong.  Her team has helped Canadian companies across many different sectors, including Research in Motion, Sierra Wireless, lululemon, RBC Capital, in their expansion in Hong Kong.
Before assuming her current post, Ms. Wong had worked for a Canadian consulting firm as a project manager and business development director.  She also has seven years of corporate and commercial banking experience in Canada and Hong Kong.  Ms. Wong holds a B.Comm degree from Queen's University and an International MBA degree from Schulich School of Business at York University.

Andrew Yui

Andrew Yui was appointed as Director, Canada of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) in July 1993.  HKTDC is Hong Kong’s statutory trade promotion agency responsible for the promotion of Hong Kong’s international trade in merchandise, services and technology.  The Council’s office in Canada (based in Toronto) is mandated to encourage and assist Canadian companies in doing business with Hong Kong and with China through the Hong Kong platform. In close co-operation with the Canadian Consulate General in Hong Kong, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Canada China Environment Forum and other like-minded multipliers, Andrew and his HKTDC team are currently organizing a Canadian Environment Mission to Hong Kong scheduled for October 26 – November 1, 2009. This mission will be the ideal platform for Canadian environment firms to explore business and partnership opportunities in Hong Kong, China and the region.

Sean X. Zhang is a lawyer in the Intellectual Property Group at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP and also a patent agent registered to practice before the Canadian Patent Office and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Sean's law practice is focused on advising clients on development and enforcement of intellectual property protection of technology, including preparation of patent applications, prosecution of patent applications before patent offices in various countries, obtaining and enforcing patents, opinion work regarding patentability, infringement and validity, and all aspects of the clearance, acquisition, enforcement and exploitation of patents, trade-marks, copyright, and industrial designs. Sean regularly advises clients on licensing of intellectual property, developing IP portfolios, intellectual property aspects of corporate-commercial transactions, and technology contracting. Sean is also a member of Blakes’ China Practice Group, assisting North American-based clients in doing business in China, and Chinese clients with matters involving legal issues in Canada.

Sean has a Ph.D. in physics from the California Institute of Technology in the U.S. and a B.Sc. from Zhejiang University in China. Sean is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), the Licensing Executives Society, and the International Federation of Intellectual Property Counsel (FICPI). He also serves on IPIC's Joint Liaison Committee - Patent, IPIC's Industrial Design Committee and IPIC's Licensing Committee.
